There are no Christians. Not even Jesus wanted to be Christ, "but he charged them that the [called Christ] should not tell anyone." (Luke) Christ is in fact the Greek word for Messiah, the national liberator of the Jews, which is expected by the faithful under them until today. No more and no less than a human man wanted to be the Son of Man Jesus. Liberating redemptive, divine as it gets. For this you can be hated and killed. Or deified and defused.
